Reyna, the FoxDog FoxDog Farm: Community Sponsored Agriculture

In 2005 FoxDog Farm tried a new method of marketing and supply utilizing a CSA model. In this model, interested parties agree to buy a 'share' of the farm's produce. Usually the share equals an amount of whatever is ripe and in season equal to what 2 or 3 people might eat in a week. The shares are distributed weekly.

This model is highly successful for us, and our last season, Summer 2009, was very good thanks to all our wonderful CSA members.

In 2010 we will offer a Summer CSA starting in mid May and a Fall CSA starting in mid September. We are accepting memberships for both CSAs at this time. You can sign up for either the Summer or Fall CSA or both. Details of the CSA offers are below and you can find the application in the menu to the right, or click here (opens a pdf file).

NEW for 2010: We are also offering an incremental payment plan for our 2010 CSAs. You can find more details in the incremental payment plan document in the menu to the right, or click here (pdf file).

FoxDog 2010 CSAs: In More Detail

Dates

The Summer 2010 CSA should start the week of the 17th of May and run for 16 weeks until the week of the 30th of August. If weather dictates that the CSA starts late, the ending date will be extended so the length of 16 weeks is maintained. The farmers hope to take the first week of September off, and return with the Fall CSA the week of the 13th of September.

The Fall CSA runs until the middle of November (the week of the 15th of November). Both CSAs together offer half a year of weekly vegetables, not including the one week break in September.

What's in a Share?

The regular share contains enough vegetables to feed, on average, 2 to 3 people throughout the week. A large share is two times the amount of a regular share, and can feed 4 to 5 people. The contents of the shares vary with the season, an example is given below:

For more detailed information about how the contents of the shares vary over the seasons, see the FoxDog CSA FAQ.

Share Additions

Because some of our customers do not like tomatoes and peppers, and because we grow our tomatoes and peppers in greenhouses, we offer these items as a greenhouse addition. The greenhouse addition comes in regular and large sizes just like the shares. The greenhouse addition runs for at least 8 weeks in the summer season, and 4 weeks in the fall season, although it usually runs longer. We start it as soon as the plants start producing.

We are looking into providing an egg addition in 2010. As of this date, the particulars of this addition are uncertain. It will depend on when we get our chickens, when they start laying and when we get our egg handling certificates. As soon as we know the details, we'll post them here and to our customer list.

Pricing

The prices for each CSA season are given above in the quick summary section.

Pick Up Days and Times

Pick up days and times are Tuesday (11 am - 3 pm) and Wednesday (3 pm - 7 pm). On your application form, please indicate the day you desire pick up. Changes can be made throughout the season, with appropriate notice, but we do need to know the day and approximate time so we can have your share ready for you. For more information, see the CSA FAQ.

Pick up is at the farm. If you live in another area, such as Bremerton or Silverdale, we'd be happy to help arrange some sort of round robin transport where you, and others who live in your area, share duty of coming to the farm to pick up your collective shares.
