Reyna, the FoxDog Goat Milk and Cheese at the Farm

Milk and Cheese at FoxDog

Goat Milk

We have a herd of about 10-20 goats, depending upon how many kids we have at any one time. The goats are kept as pets and for milk. They are Nigerian Dwarf goats; very small, very docile. Over time, we've come to depend more and more on these amazing little milkers and they supply all our dairy needs.

We are slowing working towards getting a license to sell Grade A raw goat milk. Since this requires a bit of construction, which requires a bit of capital, we've had to go slow. Eventually though, we hope to be able to share our wonderful goats' milk with others. Until then, if you drop by we might let you have a taste.

Cheese

Rikke has become a fairly good cheese maker in the last 4 or 5 years. She makes chevre (soft goat cheese), cheddar, jack, feta, blue/gorgonzola, colby, manchego, ricotta and anything else that strikes her fancy. She is also researching cheesemaking in the Middle Ages, and has made several 'medieval' type cheeses.

Cheese cannot, unfortunately, be included in the CSA at this time. Perhaps soon...

In the meantime, please enjoy a few pictures featuring milking and cheesemaking.
